The three writing spaces I use most frequently are Microsoft Word, my journal, and my school notebooks. I use Microsoft Word the most frequently of the three because it is where I do all my school work. It is an electronic writing space that only requires my laptop. I can type papers, insert graphics, create charts, and check all my spelling when I’m finished. Microsoft Word is probably the most effective way to write because it saves time, but I do not prefer it. I only use it for school.
My journal is the next frequent writing space I use. I write in a traditional journal- just a notebook and pen. It takes me longer to get my ideas on paper because I write slowly. I prefer this space however, because it feels more personal, I can doodle on the page and I can also make side notes anywhere I want. Also, what I write in this space is for my eyes only and I like it that way.
The third most frequent writing space I use is my school notebooks. Like my journal, I use paper and pen. I do not enjoy writing in these notebooks as much, but they are probably the most valuable to me. Without these notebooks I would be lost in school and my grades would suffer.
Microsoft Word in many cases remediates a college notebook. Personally I do not use my laptop at school to take notes, but many students do. The reason for this is the speed of writing. In class many students struggle to take down every word the professor says, and they often miss important information while they write. With a laptop, students can take down the information faster and be more in tune with what the professor is saying. Although it has not completely taken over the college classroom, I believe one day all students will be taking notes on their laptops instead of notebooks.
